Meaningful Uses of Technology

Upcoming curricular changes mean teachers have to find new ways to use technology meaningfully in the classroom. This means a shift in our pedagogy of teaching. We need to ask ourselves, how can we incorporate technology in the classroom in the same way that people use technology outside of the classroom.

There are some really terrific ways to use Twitter/Facebook/Snapchat/Instagram and more in an authentic format. teachhub.com shared "50 Ways to Use Twitter in the Classroom"

A great activity shared with me in an EDEL class this semester was using Twitter to re-tell a story read in class. This would work great in an English or Language Arts class of almost any grade!

Challenge your students to re-tell the story chronologically;

Students will have a great time setting up the Twitter account, coming up with a username, profile, selecting pictures to represent the user etc.

The same idea could be used with Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram and more!

Feel free to try this out in your classroom! Share your experiences below so we know how this works in an authentic learning environment!

Feel free to check out the entire Twitter page we created for the character Vivian Smith from the novel "A Tale of Time-City" here.
